Borders Distillery Spirits and Distillery Tour Tickets

The Border's Distillery opened in March 2018 and it is the first Scotch Whisky distillery in the Scottish Borders since 1837.

They're dedicated to capturing the true spirit of the Borders, and bringing whisky-making back to the region.

Their hometown of Hawick has a famous history of manufacturing – it’s where cashmere is king and where tweed was invented. There is a spirit of invention and enterprise in the town that inspires them in everything we do.

The spirits included in the lot are the:

Puffing Billy Steam Vodka is unfiltered malted barley vodka, named for the rare still which plays a key role in its production. First they pot-distil spirit from locally-grown barley, then they re-distil it into vodka using Puffing Billy, our specially-commissioned Carterhead Still. Regular filtration would strip away the delicious flavour and texture of their locally-grown barley, so instead the spirit is steamed through charcoal inside the still itself and never filtered as a liquid.

The result is brimful of character with an incredible creamy mouthfeel.

Kerr’s Gin – every drop made from Scottish Borders barley, and every grain grown within 35 miles of their Hawick distillery, entirely distilled by The Borders Distillery. And, the 2021 Gold winner of the Warsaw Spirits Competition. Their long-term partnerships with local farmers give them complete control over the creation of their spirit, from barley to bottle. Kerr’s is a Scottish Gin made with malted barley spirit in a Carterhead Still, and they believe you can taste the difference.

Distillery Tour: During the whisky distillery Tour, you will be guided through their production areas, learning the whisky making process as you go along. You will find out how they use local barley to distil Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Kerr’s Gin, and Puffing Billy Steam Vodka.

The guided tour will take you through their mashing, fermentation, and distillation halls. Their spirits are made from seed to spirit, all within the distillery. This means your distillery tour will cover all that happens in between to create their drinks, including what they do to give it its unique qualities and taste. Of course, your tour will end with the chance to sample our spirit in the distillery bar.
