Salmon and Trout Research in Frome, Dorset. An electric experience tagging

At the Salmon & Trout Research Centre at East Stoke we carry out research on all aspects of wild Atlantic salmon, trout,
grayling, and eel life history and have monitored the run of adult salmon on the River Frome since 1973. 

Through this fantastic lot, one to two people have the opportunity to join the GWCT's salmon and trout research team, to assist them while they collect data on juvenile salmon from our fish trap, as they migrate downstream and out of the River Frome in Dorset, through Poole Harbour and on to their seaward migration to their feeding grounds in the North Atlantic. Before returning as adults to the River Frome in 2026 and 2027. 

Wild, Atlantic Salmon are in serious decline so the work that is being carried out on the Frome is vital to understanding how we can help their numbers. The River Frome is one of only 12 index rivers around the North Atlantic reporting to the International Council for Exploration of the Sea on the marine survival of wild Atlantic salmon.
