About
Sarah-Jane is an experimental artist, performance designer and deviser. She is interested in how new technologies and art can find alternative ways of seeing and explore different dimensions of creative thought. Her work investigates dark and macabre themes sometimes with a surreal humour and naive aesthetic. She seduces the viewer into an unexpected world with underlying currents of a bizarre and menacing nature. The decline of the environment is a strong theme throughout her work.
“Inspired by Robert Chilson’s story “Ecological Niche” published in Analog magazine, Science Fiction, in the 1970’s. The cover illustration is of a bird which has built it’s nest from electrical wiring and resistors from a futuristic city which has tried to exclude all natural things from within it’s confines... but which has failed. Thinking of incredible adaptation and resourcefulness and what we can do with what lies discarded around us. In our shiny towers still we cannot dislocate from nature. Made with tiny bits of plastic waste from the foreshore of my childhood home, washed up with the tide, old electrical components found in the house, and some discarded bird books.”
