About
Sue England is excited by the physicality of painting. Her work is in the process, the materials, the ‘doing it’. Similarly with printmaking she finds a different discipline leads to a cross pollination of ideas which feeds into all aspects of her work.
Walking through and being in the landscape is vital to England’s practice. Playing with scale, shape and colour are key to developing images from drawings done in situ, from photos, from found objects and from memories of those experiences.
Taking part in SKY LANDSCAPE ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2019 and reaching the Final has changed her practice. She now works more ‘en plein air’, directly onto the actual canvases and less in the studio, although that still happens.
A years Residency at Denmans Garden Fontwell during 2022/23 led her to finding a another different way of painting. The ‘detail’ was overwhelming but did inspire her subject matter for the ‘EGG’ contribution.
