About
“Cuckmere Haven lies on the coast at the point where the South Downs meet the sea. It is a flood plain between Eastbourne and Brighton. Where the river Cuckmere meets the English Channel, the river becomes shallow over a bed of shingle. In 1846 the Cuckmere river was diverted to drain the flood plain. I have kayaked down the meandering river and was able to experience the rhythm and curves of the unique Oxbow lakes.”
