‘I feel very honoured to be invited to take part in this wonderful project for a new performance space at Chichester Festival Theatre. With the theatre in mind I decided that it would be apt to base my ‘egg’ designs on my time at Glyndebourne opera house. For 4 years I was fortunate to have unrivalled access to the dress rehearsals for each season and I was completely captivated by the visual magic and reverie that is created on stage. The shifting sets constantly revealing and obscuring, from ghostly presences to the intensity of colour and pattern created by lighting, the stage sets and the extraordinary costumes and characters. It is these characters from the wonderful productions of Ravel, Rosenkavallier and Saul that have provided me with inspiration for the ‘eggs’. It was a challenge to work small but absolutely loved painting on the plaster of paris and thought the figures worked well with the rounded egg surface’.

Deborah works in an instinctive and spontaneous way often combining and layering various media such as print, drawing, photography and painting.

Deborah was Artist in Residence for the Watt’s gallery in Compton, and the Grange Festival opera house, and more recently at Glyndebourne which included solo and group shows. She has also exhibited at various national and London galleries including The Lightbox, Moncrieff Bray Gallery, Pallant house, The National Open Art and The Royal College of Art, Mall galleries and Royal Watercolour society in London.
