About:
Edward Liddle is an Artist and Curator living and working in Tunbridge Wells. Recent exhibitions include: Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize Exhibition 2024 (Awarded Highly Commended), Show Off! Hastings (2024) and Fade Resistant at Weald Contemporary (2023).
Edward Liddle’s art practice is concerned with the re-interpretation of motifs. Found motifs are taken from a range of styles and eras. Some are derived from found architectural objects such as tiles, scraps of wallpaper or remnants of fabric. Others are found featured in a scene from a film or television programme and are first documented as screenshots.
The artist develops his archive of motifs through drawing. Some drawings become large scale paintings, sculptural objects and installations. Some motifs remain as drawings, taking on their own particular language.
Edward Liddle’s EGG features a striking hand decoration and is inspired by decorative motifs taken from his personal archive. The monotone colour palette is created through the use of Oak Gall Ink, as made by the artist using traditional techniques of gathering galls and rain water.
