Description
Artist: Kate Viner
Title: Cradle of Potential
Medium: Plaster
About
Sculptor Kate Viner’s work delves into universal human themes, often addressing subjects like conflict, religion, and the role of women. Kate’s practice blends abstract and figurative elements, with materials ranging from clay and wax to silver, bronze and steel. Her public commissions, such as Children in Crossfire and Captive Orbiance, reflect her commitment to community engagement and thought-provoking art.
In 2023, Kate presented her solo exhibition Resilience in Clay at Chichester Cathedral, funded by the Arts Council, exploring themes of strength and endurance through sculptural works in plaster and bronze.
For this current group exhibition, raising funds for Chichester Festival Theatre’s NEST Appeal, Cradle of Potential, is a work inspired by the symbolism of egg as a vessel of life and possibility held in the sculptor’s hand.
Kate is currently working on a public sculpture honouring Suffragist Madge Turner, with a maquette funded by Chichester City Council. This piece is proposed for permanent installation in Chichester.
