About the CIC

The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) is a politically independent, global organisation dedicated to promoting sustainable hunting as a key tool for wildlife conservation. Since its founding in 1928, the CIC has been at the forefront of efforts to ensure that the sustainable use of wildlife resources benefits both people and nature.

A vital aspect of the CIC’s work is its General Assembly, which serves as the organisation’s flagship event, bringing together heads of state, government representatives, leading conservationists, and members of the hunting and wildlife management community. These annual assemblies offer a unique platform to discuss pressing conservation issues, review policies, and launch international initiatives that shape the future of wildlife management globally. Each General Assembly is carefully themed to focus on relevant conservation topics, such as biodiversity, habitat restoration, or the socio-economic benefits of sustainable hunting.

With 29 state members, a global network of NGOs, and private members from around the world, the CIC serves as a bridge between policy and practical action. The General Assemblies play a pivotal role in this mission, fostering international collaboration and offering a space for key decision-makers to engage in high-level dialogue on conservation strategies.

The CIC’s work extends beyond these gatherings. From the forests of Europe to the savannahs of Africa, the CIC supports and promotes initiatives that balance human activity with the need to protect wildlife and their habitats. Through research, advocacy, and education, we ensure that sustainable hunting practices are recognised as essential to biodiversity conservation.

Headquartered in Vienna, Austria, with an Administrative Office in Budakeszi, Hungary, the CIC continues to engage governments, communities, and conservationists worldwide to create a future where wildlife and people coexist harmoniously.
