About Blood Cancer UK

Blood Cancer UK is a community dedicated to beating blood cancer - which includes leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, by funding research, supporting those affected and campaigning for change. Blood cancer is the fifth most common type of cancer and the UK’s third biggest cancer killer. It kills more people than breast cancer or prostate cancer each year. It is also the most common cancer in children.

We were founded by the Eastwood family from Middlesbrough in 1960, following the loss of their six-year-old daughter Susan to leukaemia. Since then, we’ve funded over £500million worth of pioneering research across the UK.

Deliver hope by supporting research this Christmas
Blood cancer research, funded by Blood Cancer UK supporters, has led to faster diagnosis, kinder and more effective treatments and every day brings us a step closer to the ultimate goal of beating blood cancer. With over 100 different types of blood cancer and 15,000 lives lost every year, too many lives are still being devastated by blood cancer. But as long as there's research, there's hope.

Alyssa's story
When Alyssa was just 12, she was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic lymphoma (ALL).  We were told about a ground-breaking clinical trial that was taking place in a Blood Cancer UK-funded lab. The treatment being developed was very new and untested, but it offered Alyssa the faintest glimmer of hope.

This amazing new treatment involved taking T-cells from a healthy volunteer and adapting them in the lab to create universal CAR-T cells, which seek out cancer cells and destroy them.
But nobody knew exactly what to expect when those universal CAR-T cells were injected into Alyssa, because the treatment had never been tried before.

Ten weeks after the CAR-T treatment, Alyssa's family received the incredible news that she was in remission.

Blood Cancer UK’s funding of the lab-based research was a crucial step in getting this ground-breaking approach trialled for people like Alyssa.

Please support life-saving research and deliver hope this Christmas. With your help, we can fund more ground breaking research that will save many more lives.
